When our past client Emma picked up the phone and called our Studio in Chelsea Harbour we were delighted to hear from her again. She loved the work we had done on her office space and she now wanted us to furnish her new apartment in the heart of Marylebone Village. The great bonus of working with someone you have worked with before is that you know what they like and what is really important to them. Much of being a good interior design company is listening to and understanding the most important person in the mix - your client. Emma has great taste herself - her love of pattern in both pastels and bolder tones blended with a more neutral backdrop is something she feels comfortable living and working in.

The apartment in Chiltern Place is flooded with light from tall walls of glass that look out over Central London and open onto an urban terrace space. The open plan living space naturally fell into different zones for eating, working, relaxing and entertaining in. We placed a huge, squashy sofa in front of the joinery unit which housed the TV and doubled as a comms cupboard. The blond timber doors on this joinery wall slide shut to reveal open shelves either side. Lighting is crucial to make a space welcoming and workable at any time of the day or night. We added integrated lighting into the open shelves and made sure that the whole apartment had a soft low level light source created by a collection of lamps and floor lights and as an alternative to the brighter “task” lighting already there.

When it came to the master bedroom, our client wanted something that was a haven of calm. She loves soft pastel colours which are perfect for a bedroom as they create a truly calm atmosphere. We used a palette of ivory, ice blue and teal to give this room a “zen” feel which was the perfect antidote to her busy professional life outside the apartment. By using difference depths of whites and neutrals in different textures -linen, lacquer, crystal and silk, the end result was a master bedroom interior that feels both luxurious and glamorous.

Although this is only a two bedroom apartment, Emma wanted a really long dining table combined with an upholstered bench running the full length of the table - here she could host large gatherings of friends and family. However, we pointed out to her that there would be times when there were just two of them for supper and so we designed a smaller round table to sit in the window where they could eat and work when just one or two people were in the flat. Emma loved this and we added some of our signature upholstered pouffs instead of chairs to add more flexibility - the pouffs can be used at the table or put in the sitting area when Emma needs to seat more people in the reception space.

As always, the devil is in the detail so we added some fun accessories and artwork to the collection Emma already had. By working with our clients existing pieces we can ensure that their new space immediately has their personal stamp on it and they feel at home the minute they walk through the door.
