THE 5 ESSENTIALS for EVERY HOME

Family Home, Richmond

VERSATILITY

The key to a functional yet relaxed home, whether it’s on the large or slightly more snug scale, is all about being clever with space. We always start by getting to understand the needs & lifestyle of the client so that we can create a layout which will help to elevate their everyday life and make use of every aspect of their property.

COMFORT

Comfort is key to making you want to curl up and chill out in a space, which is why we ‘sit test’ each and every seat we supply. After all, if a product isn’t comfortable, what’s the point?

LIGHT

Lighting is essential for a true sense of wellbeing. We all need our daily dose of vitamin D to feel well and energised, and it is vital we get some natural daylight each day. But how we use inside light is crucial too. This is why we use a variety of different lighting styles, such as task lighting and accent lighting to create atmosphere and warmth – lighting, after all, is so much more than simply having light to see by.

If you are lucky enough to have lots of natural light then maximise it: create your key spaces around places with big windows and make sure curtains and blinds don’t block out too much natural light during the day.

If a room or space lacks natural light i.e. a basement, we tend to provide additional lighting that is balanced, but could also work at different levels to compliment the room’s many different uses. Opt for the warmer light tones to help add a sense of calm and to make the room really welcoming. Harsh, white lighting is never relaxing.

ESCAPES

We all need somewhere we can escape; a place to unwind and take those vital moments for our own wellbeing. Whether it’s a cosy TV snug, a corner to practice yoga or even just an armchair to sit and watch the world go by, these little escape spaces can make all the difference in creating relaxing break away places to just “be”.

PERSONALITY

Styling:

Shelves are a great way to display personality. A hotch-potch of battered, dog-eared books may scream bookworm, but it’s not a look that suits everyone. Create a more sophisticated look with a curated and coordinated shelf, selecting only those books you really want to display. Balance out the books by mixing in glassware and ceramics, in shades that compliment the shelving.

Shelves are a great way to display collections - whether your ‘thing’ is rare fossils, collectable matchboxes or stylish cameras. Add a splash of colour to your display with flowers interspersed here and there.

Artwork:

A bright and colourful piece of art will quickly bring your room to life, as well as allowing you to display your personality in colour – whether you choose a bright and cheery scene, a psychedelic explosion or simply opt for more basic, geometric colourful prints.

Colour:

As with every interior, colour is key when it comes to giving a personal touch to your sourroundings. We often find that the colours our clients choose to wear help to make them feel really relaxed & comforted when used in their homes. If you don’t know what colours you like, use a paint chart to find out - you’ll find that your eye is naturally drawn to one end of the spectrum.
