The January blues, and how to embrace it in your interior

January really does get a tough time; it feels like we are living in a post-Christmas haze.  The weather is not at its finest and the evenings are still dark and gloomy - we are living the ‘January blues’!

Our new year’s resolution this year is to embrace our January blues with a celebration of this great colour, so we thought we would share a few tips on how we use it in our projects. As a design team we often gravitate to blue year-round. It is such a versatile colour and has so many options, creating different moods depending which palette and tone you use. Soft pastel blues can help to create a serene & tranquil room, but if you decide on bold and bright blues these can elevate spirits and give a room real impact.

When it comes to paint in a more contemporary space try a deep, midnight blue such as Farrow and Ball ‘Railings’ or Little Greene’s ‘Basalt’, both are great on cabinets, joinery and woodwork. A bold navy patterned wallpaper such as Moroccan stripes by Ottoline can look fantastic and give a real impact to small space such as a bathroom. Softer, pastel shades of blue work brilliantly in bedrooms; creating an immediate sense of calm for the perfect hideaway to which you can escape, relax & sleep.

Whichever tone you decide on, blue is a classic and has been a long-standing favourite colour of ours, year after year.  Happy January.
